WTMusic: The Philosophies of Andy Kim

Andy Kim is a legendary songwriter and performer hailing originally from Montreal, Canada. In the course of his career he charted with such hits as “How’d We Ever Get This Way?”, “Shoot ‘Em Up Baby”, “Baby, I Love You“, “Be My Baby” and the #1 billboard hit “Rock Me Gently“.

Arguably the most famous song of Andy Kim’s career though is the all time classic “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies, which Andy Kim penned along with the help of the iconic Jeff Barry.

Sugar, Sugar” not only reached #1 on the Billboard chart, but held that position for a 4-week period, and did the same on the top of the UK Singles chart for a remarkable 8 weeks. The song was classified as the #1 song of 1969 by Billboard and is ranked by the same organization as #78 in the all-time Hot 100.

With the “Sugar, Sugar” celebrating it’s 50-year anniversary the We Talk Music podcast felt it would be the perfect time to have Andy Kim on to discuss the song, it’s inception, history and legacy. But Andy Kim is far too fascinating a man to leave the conversation at just that.

Andy really wanted to discuss not just music, who we are, and who all of us are, and how music relates in our lives. It’s a fascinating and inspirational conversation for all music lovers and people looking to understand human nature. Highly recommended.
