WTMusic: The Awe Inspiring Mike LePond

There is absolutely no argument. Mike LePond is one of the best and most highly regarded bassists on planet Earth, period. His newest project is called DeadRisen with guitarist Rod Rivera (Rivera/Bomma), and the self titled debut album is available now.

Best known for his time with prog metal pioneers Symphony X since the year 2000, Mike LePond has also cut his teeth with the bands Affector, Dead on Arrival, and also currently plays with The Ross The Boss Band. As well, Mike released a solo album in 2014 titled Silent Assassins.

Surprisingly soft spoken for a man who plays with some loudest and heaviest rock acts in the world, the humble Mike LePond loves to talk about music, and specifically his instrument the bass. It’s a real treat to get to dig into the techniques and styles he uses. It makes you truly appreciate just why he is as as respected as he is, and your WTM hosts Brett and Mo didn’t miss any opportunity to dig deep with Mike on it.

But don’t worry, the guys didn’t forget to talk in depth about the DeadRisen album either. From the unique flamenco guitar found on the metal album, to the formation of the band, to the contribution of young band mates Will Shaw and Dan Prestup, there’s lots of good stuff here.

And if you have any interest in the role of a rhythm section in a band, and why Tom Hamilton and Erik Kramer are so effective for Aerosmith, then We Talk Music has you covered. Plus Mike shares thoughts and stories about Ross The Boss, and why he is just so awesome and such a genuine person.
