From the publisher: Vol.1 – Locked up for a life of murder, Roy Nash never thought he’d walk the mean streets of Chicago again… let alone rescue his beloved, Lena. But when the city’s Mafia elite spring the notorious gun-for-hire to handle one last assignment, Roy once again finds himself thrown headfirst into a life of bloodshed and bullets as he sprints a breathless race to save the girl he left behind. From legendary screenwriter and director Walter Hill (The Warriors, Red Heat, Last Man Standing) and French comics Matz, comes this hardboiled crime thriller set in the bullet-ridden streets of 1930s Chicago.

Our We Talk Comics WeView – Picture it: Arizona, 1932. A gangster car drives through the desert and pulls into a nearly deserted town. A sharp dressed man with a fedora exits the back of the car and enters into a lazy dusty bar. Old style blues is playing on the gramophone; the town hussy pretends to be able to read a newspaper; the local old timer burns out his lungs, and an uptight bartender says there is no alcohol on the premises. The sharp dressed man asks the bartender for information on an elusive character. The bartender refuses to provide information. Then out comes the guns.

Those are just the opening pages of this extremely well done and atmospheric first issue of “Triggerman” from Titan Comics. The panels are filled with stylish washed out tones and deep contrast art which are done in an old cinematic style. Talk about classy! Then on top of all this, it reads like a traditional film noir plot. In this case, not only does it have all the traditional trappings and cliches of a gangster film, it also involves an intriguing backstory and a plot twist that will surely make the series a page turner.

For an interesting reading experiment, I went online and simultaneously played the particular blues song that was depicted throughout the gun fight in the comic. What an cool immersive experience!

Triggerman is a very violent and stylish read that comes with a dash of nudity which makes this definitely for mature readers. But there’s no doubt I  highly recommend “Triggerman” for the overall fun factor.
