WTComics Presents: Arvell Jones – Best Interview Ever!

Talking to Arvell Jones.

When veteran penciller and Misty Knight co-creator Arvell Jones got on line to chat with us the first thing he asked was “What are we talking about today?”.

Our answer was “Hopefully just some good stories”. From there Arvell said he hoped he had some before unleashing a string of the most amazing tales from the comic book industry we’ve ever heard, featuring his interactions with one legend after another, such as:

His first full pencilling job after being Rich Buckler’s assistant and how Buckler reacted when he told him about it.

Tony Isabella’s reaction to Buckler’s reaction.

The last conversation Arvell Jones had with Rich Buckler shortly before his unfortunate passing in 2017.

The first time Stan “The Man” Lee talked to Arvell Jones after he had been already working in the Marvel offices for a while.

The differences in office etiquette between Marvel and DC comics in the 1980’s.

The success of the Black Panther movie and the work Arvell Jones did on the movie poster.

His honesty with a young Bob Layton, how Bob took it and remembered years later when Bob Layton was running Valiant.

Having Jack “King” Kirby tell a teenaged Arvell Jones that he should become a professional comic artist.

Drawing Iron Man during the controversial nose on the mask era and how he and John Romita dealt with it and each other.

Plus… The Secret Origin of Milestone Comics revealed… And how Dwayne McDuffie told him racism contributed to it’s failure.

So do yourself a favor and listen to the awesome Arvell Jones tell these and a whole lot more great stories, it’s excellent stuff.
