Iconic Canadian television station MuchMusic was the little channel that could, surviving in the face of long odds to thrive and make a massive cultural impact in both their home country and around the world.
Film maker Sean Menard is capturing the unique and bold times of the stations early years in his documentary “299 Queen Street West“, the physical home of MuchMusic for most of it’s lifetime.
One of the key components of the movie is the interview with the legendary group of VJs that were on the ground floor for the kickoff of MuchMusic as the station sought to establish themselves in those early days. That includes such former WTM guests as Christopher Ward and Erica Ehm, and this episodes visitor, the fabulous Michael Williams.
Michael Williams brought a level of cool and class to MuchMusic that was vital to establishing the station’s vibe, and there’s lots of talk on this episode of the We Talk Music podcast about those times, the documentary, and what Michael Williams is up to no. It’s a great show so check it out!
