We Talk Music is Holland bound! This time Brett welcomes bassist of 7 Miles to Pittsburgh, Martin Helmantel. Martin comes on to talk about the band’s latest release Revolution on Hold out now via their own label A67 Records.
7 Miles to Pittsburgh was formed when Martin, formerly of Elegy and singer Andrew Elt formerly of the band Sleeze Beez decided it was time to work together. They released their first self-titled album in 2017, and a lot of the songs they were working on during those sessions wound up as part of Revolution on Hold. We talk that as well as a bunch of other topics including:
- When and how they write their songs
- How the band came together and formed
- Getting their music out to the public
- The songs that go on the live set, including the Rush classic, Tom Sawyer
- The album cover and what they look for in cover art
- Where the band’s name came from
- How the sound of the band developed
- How Elegy and Sleeze Beez fans have reacted to the new band
- Stories that prove how accurate This is Spinal Tap was
- What Martin wished he had done better in his early career
- Being a business man, but getting the right help
- The 7 Miles to Pittsburgh beer that is coming out
- How difficult it is to keep a band together
- Having your own studio and being able to record whenever you want
