On December 31st, 2016 it will be exactly 40 years to the day that Zebra played a gig in their adopted hometown of Long Island for the first time, and since that fateful day Lead Singer/Guitarist Randy Jackson has experienced enough in the music industry to fill 3 lifetimes.
From migrating with bandmates Felix Hanemann and Guy Gelso to the east coast from New Orleans, to the New York music scene in the late 70’s, to the release of their self titled first album, Randy Jackson provides great insight on an exciting time in the music industry.
We move through the success the band had with “Who’s Behind The Door” and “Tell Me What You Want” and the somewhat strange music videos that accompanied the songs straight through to the disappointment felt with the release of the follow up albums No Telling Lies and 3.V, plus Randy’s unique sight gag at the end of the “Wait Until The Summer’s Gone” video.
The follow up project, Randy Jackson’s China Rain is discussed as is his time doing The Midi Show and developing the almost too advanced for it’s own good musical instrument The Key.
Plus we get Randy Jackson’s thoughts on legends recently lost in Prince, Glen Frey and David Bowie and hear about his surreal experience in New York on the day of John Lennon’s death and working with Lennon’s producer Jack Douglas shortly after.
The stories and insight in this interview are great so give it a listen and keep up with Randy Jackson and Zebra through www.thedoor.com/ .
