Mack Bolan aka The Executioner was created in 1969 by Don Pendleton. It features a former war veteran vigilante who takes on the mob after blaming them for the murder/suicide his father committed against his family. The popular book series features over 400 novels and had a short lived comic book run in the early 1990’s.
Vietnam War veteran Frank Castle was concaved by Gerry Conway, Also a vigilante known as the Punisher, Frank seeks revenge against the mob for the killing of his wife and children who were witnesses to a gangland killing. Exploding in popularity in the late 1980’s, the character has gone on to become a Marvel Comics mainstay, and crossed over into Television and Film.
