From the publisher – “Ambush”—The Mighty Crusaders are on the attack against the vicious Eliminators! It’s an all-out brawl with the odds in the Crusaders’ favor, until they’re faced with a new, dark entity: The Dream Demon!
Our We Talk Comics WeView – The super hero genre in comics has been a crowded place for close to 8 decades now but with the value of the properties in other media never being higher it’s understandable for publishers to continue to look to grab a piece of the pie.
Enter the Dark Circle imprint from Archie, a grittier interpretation of classic super heroes the publisher has been putting out off and on for over 50 years.
It’s a tricky situation, trying to pay tribute to the characters past personalities and satisfy older fans while still moving them forward in a modern setting for older readers. In this difficult task writer Ian Flynn does a fine job in The Mighty Crusaders #3.
Meanwhile the art team of Kelsey Shannon and Ryan Jampole provide a dynamic super hero friendly style with just enough of a rough edge to get across how serious and deadly the battle with the villainous team The Eliminators is in /the Mighty Crusaders #3.
While not reinventing the wheel by any means The Mighty Crusaders #3 provides an entertaining alternative for super hero fans looking for a new series to jump into that isn’t bogged down by too much confusing continuity.
Recommended for – Fans of Mark Gruenwald’s Squadron Supreme, James Robinson’s Elseworld mini series The Golden Age, and Roy Thomas’s 1980’s run on Justice Society of America and All-Star Squadron.
Rating: Very Fine (VF) or 8.0/10
